A man aged 48 from Ialoveni was sentenced to 19 years in closed-type jail for trafficking in persons, trafficking in children and organization of begging. The sentence was pronounced by the Centru branch of the Court of Chisinau and can be appealed to the Chisinau Appeals Court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, in 2009 the man profited from the precarious situation of a woman with two minor children and organized their departure to the Russian Federation. When on the spot, he confiscated their identification papers.

During six years, the woman, together with her minor children, and also her mother who came after her had been forced to beg, being beaten and threatened. Also, the man repeatedly abused sexually the six-year-old girl of the woman while this was begging.

The case was investigated by prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.
