A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in jail because he raped and robbed a 71-year-old woman from a village located in southern Moldova at the end of July, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that at night on July 29, the culprit broke into the woman’s home and robbed her of 150 lei by threatening her. Later, by physical constraint, profiting from the victim’s inability to defend herself, he raped her for several times. The next day, he came again and raped her, stealing 200 lei.

According to prosecutors, the man had been earlier convicted of similar offences.

The sentence can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.
