A man who is believed to be a member of a criminal organization based in Transnistria and specializing in illegal sale of weapons was sentenced to 11 years in prison, Info-Prim Neo reports. The man, 40, had been accused by the prosecutors of illegal purchase, possession and sale of weapons worth 9,200 euros and also of obtaining an amount of 4,700 euros through fraud. The illegal sale included a Kalashnikov rifle, a clip with 30 cartridges and two Mukha grenade launchers. The investigation established that the man had obtained the weapons from the Transnistrian region and kept them in his Chisinau apartment. The Moldovan law enforcement agencies presume the weapons could be from a Russian military base located in the region, but so far there is no evidence to support the presumption as conducting investigations in that region is difficult. The investigation will continue so that other accomplices can be brought to justice. “The number of all those involved in this criminal network has not been determined yet, but we know it's a large one. Currently four other suspects are under investigation”, said prosecutor Maxim Gropa.
