An explosion followed by fire, caused by the improper use of gasoline to light the fire in the stove, occurred on the evening of October 27 in a house in Călărași town. A 45-year-old man, who suffered burns on about 80% of his body, was rushed to the district hospital for emergency treatment, IPN reports.
Three crews of rescuers and firefighters intervened quickly to localize and extinguish the fire, managing to extinguish the fire at around 06:59 p.m. The flames affected an area of 25 square meters.
On the same day, two other serious fires were reported, one in Cocieri village of Dubăsari district and another one in Corpaci village of Edineț district. They both resulted in deaths.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the number of fires caused by recklessness or non-compliance with the fire safety rules is worrying. The 1,327 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 75 deaths, with three of the victims being minors.
The Inspectorate calls on the citizens to comply with the safety measures when using stoves and other heating equipment, avoiding the use of flammable liquids and complying with all fire prevention rules.
