Man from Cahul district crushed to death by pile of sand

A man aged 43 from Chioselia Mare village of Cahul district died when a large pile of sand fell over him in a quarry situated near the locality. The body was found after almost nine hours of searches.

Sources in the mayor’s office of the village have told IPN that two more locals worked together with the man who died. These were further from the man and managed to keep away. The local authorities repeatedly warned that the extraction works in the quarry are dangerous, but the men continued to work there.

The man who died was married and had three children, two of whom are minors. He was considered a decent and hardworking man.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, a number of rescue teams with special equipment performed a rescue operation and looked for the man during many hours. The circumstances of this case are to be established by investigators.
