Man found dead after house fire in Falesti
An unidentified man was found dead after a fire ravaged through a Falesti house on Monday.
Liliana Puscasu, spokesperson for the Civil Protection Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire erupted in a rural household in Falesti district, destroying all the contents of the house. After the blaze was put out, the firefighters discovered the body of a man in one of the rooms. The police are to establish the identity of the victim and and the cause of the tragedy, as the crew blamed the fire on reckless smoking.
Some 30 tonnes of hay were destroyed by flames near a sheepfold in Ungheni district. Preliminary investigations indicated a possible arson.
Besides fires, Liliana Puscasu warns of flood threats for several locations in Cahul district because of the enduring high water on the Prut River.
On alert remain the villages of Vadul lui Isac, Câşliţa-Prut, Slobozia Mare and Văleni, all located in Prut's Valley. To avoid flooding, the area is monitored round the clock by surveillance posts. In Vadul lui Isac village, the local dike was reinforced with tons of gravel to protect the railway. Sandbags were used to strengthen the dike in Câşliţa-Prut, with similar works being in progress in the remaining two settlements.
