Man fined 50,000 lei for cyber-attack on government servers

A man from Anenii Noi was tried for attempting to disrupt the functioning of a government information system. The individual, who is not at the first illegality, was fined 50,000 lei, IPN reports.

According to prosecutors, between October 11 and 25, 2019, the defendant, together with other people, tried to compromise government email servers, using specialized software for automatic password generation. The cyberattacks were detected and neutralized thanks to the protection measures implemented by the cybersecurity specialists of the competent authorities.

The 32-year-old man admitted his guilt. Initially, he was put on an international wanted list, being extradited from Poland to the Republic of Moldova. In addition to the fine of 50,000 lei, the defendant will have to pay over 100,000 lei court costs. Also, the equipment used to commit the crime was confiscated.

Previously, the man was tried and sentenced to prison for similar crimes committed in the United States of America.
