A man from Chisinau is investigated for attempting to offer €200 bribe to an employee of the Leuseni Customs Post for avoiding customs control, IPN reports.
According to the spokeswoman for the National Anticorruption Center Angela Starinschi, the customs officer refused to take the bribe and informed the institution’s administration and the Center about this case. An operative group travelled to the scene to document the case. It was established that the man had a number of undeclared objects brought from Italy in his car. He was put under arrest for 72 hours.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case over active corruption. The man faces up to six years in jail and a fine of up to 80,000 lei.
Since the Law on the Testing of the Professional Integrity took effect, about 40 cases of active corruption and inappropriate influences have been reported to the National Anticorruption Center.
