A 39-year-old man died in a fire that broke out in his home. The tragedy occurred in Copanca village of Căușeni district. The fire was caused by a heater, IPN reports.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, two fire crews intervened to extinguish the fire. It was established that the owner of the house left the electric heater turned on near the bed and this caught fire after overheating.
Another case of noncompliance with safety rules when using heating installations was reported in Cantemir district of Coștangalia village. There, two minors aged 11 and 14 were taken to the hospital for medical care. According to specialists, the minors suffered carbon monoxide poisoning after the stove vent remained closed.
The Inspectorate urges the population to strictly observe the fire safety rules when using stoves and other sources of heating the house, to ventilate the room before going to sleep and not to overheat the installations intended for heating homes.
The 1,499 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 89 deaths, with three of the victims being minors. The 49 cases of poisoning reported in the period ended in the death of 16 people, including three children.
