A Moldovan aged 33 was arrested on suspicion that he smuggled objects with a historical-cultural value. In his car, there were found collection coins, banknotes and postage stamps that were to be illegally brought into the country through the Leuseni customs post, IPN reports.
According to the Customs Service, the contraband was discovered during checking formalities. The man’s car was redirected to the Red Corridor for checks even if this chose the lane for persons who have nothing to declare.
As a result of checks, the customs inspectors found 800 coins of different forms and sizes, 12 banknotes and six postage stamps in the car. It was established that some of the articles were over 100 years old. Three of the coins were estimated to date from the ancient period.
The man faces three to ten years in jail for smuggling. He was initially placed under arrest for 72 hours.
