Man caught smuggling 398 coins out of Moldova

A 60-year-old man with dual nationality, of Moldova and Canada, tried to take 398 coins out of the country without declaring them. The coins, which are allegedly made from precious metal, were found in the passenger’s baggage at the Chisinau International Airport, IPN reports.

The Border Police said that the joint control team found the 398 coins hidden from specialty checks in the baggage of the man who wanted to board the Chisinau-Vienna plane on June 19.

The coins were seized and can be confiscated, while the man faces a contravention penalty.

All the coins made from precious metals and other coins with cultural or historical value must be declared in accordance wait the law. For these to be taken out of the country, the persons need documents issued by responsible institutions.
