Man caught getting €10,900 to convince judge to issue more lenient sentence
A 55-year-old man was arrested on October 29 as he was getting a bribe of €10,900. According to the Combating Economic Crimes & Corruption Center (CECCC), the suspect allegedly asked for the money to convince an Appellate Court judge “to solve a trial positively,” Info-Prim Neo reports.
The trial concerned a detainee sentenced to 10 years for huge misappropriations. The suspect told him he could influence the judge to issue a more lenient sentence.
The CECCC employees were notified by the man the money was extorted from. The CECCC says the arrested had no relation with the respective judge of the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
If found guilty the the suspect may get from 5 to 10 years of jail.
