An 87-year-old man died in a fire that broke out in a house in Orhei municipality. The emergency services were alerted by neighbors, who noticed dense smoke coming from under the roof of the house. Arriving at the place, firefighters found the partially charred body of the owner. The tragedy allegedly occurred due to careless use of open fire, IPN reports.
The call to the 112 Service was received on Thursday at around 10:00 p.m. Two fire crews managed to extinguish the fire at 11:01 p.m. The flame destroyed goods in two rooms inside the house. The fire most likely started from a candle left burning, said the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
The people are urged to be cautious when using candles or lamps, to put them in safe places, away from clothes and other combustible materials, and to put them out during the night. Increased attention should be paid to the elderly.
The 1,513 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year claimed the lives of 90 people. Three of the victims were children.
