A man, 26, was apprehended on suspicion of blackmailing a young woman into paying him a 15,000 lei ransom for not publishing her intimate photos. The suspect was arrested as he received the first installment of 4,000 lei.

The General Police Inspectorate says in a press release that the suspect came into possession of nude pictures of the 23-year-old victim and threatened to post them on social networks unless she paid him. The suspect had been followed by the police for one month before being arrested on Monday. 

A criminal case was initiated on blackmail charges. The suspect was previously convicted of rape, robbery and theft.

The man faces from 7 up to 10 years' imprisonment.
