A man from Chisinau was sentenced to ten years in jail for trafficking in heroin and opium. Earlier, he was acquitted after he lied that he didn’t know the Romanian language, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the man was acquitted by the first court because his right to interpretation was violated in the trial, with a number of proofs being nullified.
In the Appeals Court, the prosecutors proved that the man discussed the investigated issue with his wife in the Romanian language. In such circumstances, the Appeals Court ascertained that the culprit’s rights weren’t violated.
The medical examination determined that the culprit was under the influence of drugs after he swallowed a small bag with opium. He was noticed doing this by an investigation officer who was present at the searches.
