Man accused of cruel murder gets his sentence harshened

The sentence for a 31-year-old man from Telenești district, who was convicted of murder committed with special cruelty, was rendered harsher. The Telenești Prosecutor’s Office appealed the sentence by which the Orhei Court sentenced the man to 13 years and four months in jail to the Chisinau Appeals Court, which extended the jail term to 30 years, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In the autumn of 2020, the convict, being in a cellar of a villager together with the second culprit and the victim, drank alcoholic beverages together and then got into a fight. The two culprits took the victim to a waste dump close to a village of Telenești district , where they kicked and punched this and hit his head against a concrete pole for several times. They later set the man on fire even if he was yet alive.

The convict pleaded not guilty. The sentence is final, but can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice within 30 days.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the second culprit accepted blame. He was tried in a separate case. In June 2021, the man was sentenced to 13 years and three months in jail by the Rezina Branch of the Orhei Court.
