Maltreated children can ask for help on 0800 1111 6
Children and parents can report cases of violation of children’s rights on the phone number [0800 1111 6]. The call from fixed-line phone is free of charge. The hotline “Child’s Telephone” is an initiative by the children’s rights ombudswoman Tamara Plamadeala supported by the OSCE Mission to Moldova. The NGO CCF – Moldova (Child, Community, Family) is participating in the project as a partner, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We want to get informed and prevent cases of infringement of children’s rights,” Tamara Plamadeala said at a news conference held to launch the hotline on Thursday.
According to the ombudswoman, the phone calls will be answered by human rights and jurisprudence experts who will record cases of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, cases of negligence, violence and exploitation, etc. The children will be advised and encouraged to consult other specialists if need be. The hotline will work Monday through Friday from 08.00 to 20.00.
“The children face many problems and we should not be indifferent. We must make sure that their rights are respected,” said project coordinator Tatiana Moca.
“The OSCE Mission is pleased to support this project, be near the Moldovan children and contribute to stability and peace in this country by ensuring the observance of children’s rights,” said Dace Lukumiete, senior consultant on human rights at OSCE Moldova.
The hotline has been tested for two weeks. Six cases of violation of children’s rights have been reported so far, two of which in Chisinau. The children complained they had been maltreated and beaten by adults.
