Majority thinks Moldova is not governed by people’s will
The Public Opinion Barometer, produced by the Institute for Public Policy, shows that 55% of the population considers that Moldova is not being governed by the people’s will.
Less than 27% of the participants in the opinion poll think that Moldova is governed by people’s will.
Only 23% of the persons think that they are able to effectively influence important decisions made at the local level, and about 16% - at the state level.
According to the same survey 55% of the responders are little interested or not interested in politics at all, compared to about 13% of those who find themselves strongly interested.
More than 47% of the participants don’t think that elections in Moldova are free and fair, while 1/3 of the responders believe that they are.
33% of the responders think that there is no political opposition in Moldova, compared to about 18% who think that the opposition exists. Of those answering positive, 21.3% think that the opposition party is the People’s Christian-Democrat Party, followed by “Moldova Noastra” Alliance (18%). Other named parties were the Democrat Party, Social Liberal Party, Social-Democrat Party etc. Over 4% considers that the Communists Party is the opposition party.
The poll was carried out on November 5-17 and involved a 1,150- person sample from 85 towns and villages, except for the Transnistrian region. The maximum margin of error constitutes 2.9%. The survey was produced with the financial support of Soros Foundation-Moldova.
