The head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Ion Prisacaru ordered launching a national campaign to allow the persons carrying out transportation activities to voluntarily comply with the tax legislation. Within this campaign, the Inspectorate will make effort to discourage and diminish the illegal transportation activities that affect the safety of people and the quality of the services provided by operators and carriers, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Inspectorate, the campaign “The Tax Service helps honest carriers” starts on August 19 and ends on September 19. “The rise in the number of illegal transportation activities requires taking measures to verify the sector so as to support the honest carriers and operators by combating tax evasion and other illegal activities,” it is said in the communiqué.

In order to achieve the set objectives, there will be set up working groups, in accordance with the joint plan of measures for combating illegal transportation by road and liquidating clandestine and semiclandestine bus and minibus terminals. Measures will be taken to improve the situation in the public passenger transportation sector. Economic offenses and tax evasion will be combated based on the regulations on the interaction and cooperation between the Main State Tax Inspectorate and the General Police Inspectorate.

Recently, the Government approved a document under which the travelling by regular suburban, interurban and international motor routes without a ticket will be fined 800 lei to 1,200 lei. The fine will be imposed on the driver and the person authorizing the unit of transport running on the route to set off.

Similar fines will be paid by the driver or the conductor for not issuing the ticket during the trip. Penalties will be also imposed for trips without ticket by railway, electrical and naval transport.
