The political struggle on the Moldovan political arena is now based on geopolitical criteria, while the anti-oligarchic opposition was almost excluded from the game, said experts invited to the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Director of the Center for Strategic Research and Political Consulting “Politicon” Anatol Taranu said there are three poles on the Moldovan political arena and one of these is inactive. “We have two geopolitical poles and the third pole that is represented by the anti-oligarchic opposition. The third pole is demoralized, but is expected to recover. The two geopolitical poles that struggle for power now need each other and complement each other. Until recently, Chisinau was shaken by anti-oligarchic protests, but now the political dispute was transferred to geopolitical ground. Currently, the ruling party appears as the only pro-European force that distinguishes itself on this black background that is represented by the forces of the left,” stated Taranu.
Expert Corneliu Ciurea also considers that the main struggle is geopolitical in character. “The main political struggle now involves the pro-European segment and the pro-Russian one. The PDM’s intention to lean to the right caused particular dissention on the political arena. The confrontation between the two segments is in full swing. They are both well prepared and have press and TV channels. But the two poles need each other,” he said.
Head of the Women’s Political Club 50/50 Ecaterina Mardarovici said the pole of the left, which now goes up in polls, will not remain long in this position. “Judging by his actions, Igor Dodon hasn’t yet taken up his duties as President, but continues to act as the leader of the PSRM. He returned with nothing from Moscow. His meeting with Putin looked more like a meeting between two party leaders, not between Heads of State. I don’t think Dodon will solve the problem of Moldovans who work illegally in the Russian Federation, as he will not solve the problem of Moldova’s exports to the Russian market,” she stated.
