MAIB clients who suffered damages did not recover their losses, statement

Veaceslav Sevciuc, representative of about 20 clients that suffered losses following the Moldova-Agroindbank robbery, claims that they have received only the first instalment, worth 500 thousand lei, while the rest of the losses has not been paid until now. The customers claim that meantime, several facts came to light which confirm what they had previously stated, namely that the MAIB robbery was organized from inside the bank. Customers declare themselves determined to protest until the damage is fully compensated.

At an IPN press conference, Veaceslav Sevciuc stated that the clients addressed to the bank the proposal to conclude a reconciliation agreement. And although the bank gave assurances in this regard, it did not deliver on the promise. The clients who suffered damages hardly managed to set up a working meeting with the bank's executive board on September 4. The bank expressed regrets, apologies and said it was working on identifying a solution, which was to be presented on September 13. Following the discussions, it was decided that the protests should be suspended. However, on September 13, the executive board, with which the clients had discussed previously, did not show up, but three people without decision-making power were delegated instead. No solution was offered.

"The bank misleads not only the media, the statements to shareholders contain the same false allegations. The bank does not want to conclude this dispute amicably, which is why the protests will continue until the damage is fully compensated”, stressed Veaceslav Sevciuc.

As far as the investigation is concerned, Veaceslav Sevciuc mentioned that criminal proceedings had been initiated and subsequently suspended. After a series of requests, press statements and addresses to state authorities, in early October "the illegal ordinance was cancelled and the re-start of the criminal case for the bank's dereliction of duty was ordered, according to the Criminal Code article - Defective or fraudulent management of a bank, investment company, insurance company”. Finally, the customers who suffered damages were summoned at the police station to give explanations, to submit requests, etc.

"We have all the evidence and grounds for the persons responsible within the bank to be held criminally liable for these organized actions and for this negligence, which pertains to compliance with basic regulations," said Veaceslav Sevciuc. Clients are planning to request independent judicial expertise to estimate the extent to which the bank has ensured the safeguarding of the clients' assets.

On the night of 5 to 6 July, from Chisinau-Buiucani branch of CB „Moldova Agroindbank” JSC, located on 78 Ion Creangă street, Chisinau municipality, from the room specially designed for keeping safe deposit boxes, unknown persons stole financial means, material goods, jewellery and documents from 84 individual boxes, after which they left the scene. The police established that the offenders entered the bank by forcing their way through the window, cutting off the windows bars, as well as breaking the lock from the specially arranged room.
