At the end of 2024, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, delivered a New Year’s message to citizens, reflecting on the challenges and achievements of the past year and sharing hopes for the future. She emphasized the importance of national unity, mutual trust, and love for the country, IPN reports.
"We are ending a year that has tested us with many challenges but also opened many paths. At the end of the year, we usually leave behind everything we didn’t like and focus on our successes, but above all, on the hope that things will get better," said Maia Sandu, adding that 2024 was lived with intensity, difficult moments, but also reasons for pride.
The President highlighted that Moldovans found strength to take pride in national achievements, even in the most challenging times: "Together, we rejoiced at every medal brought home by our Olympians and athletes, at every success of our students and pupils, at every time a doctor saved a life or a teacher discovered the potential in a student. We bowed in respect when a social worker, a police officer, a soldier, a civil servant, or a journalist fulfilled their duty to the country with honor".
At the same time, Maia Sandu addressed the divisions in society, stating that these can be overcome by accepting differences and recognizing that all Moldovans want the same thing: "We can bridge this gap only if we accept our differences while realizing that we all want the same for our families and for all of Moldova – to live in peace, to be healthy, and to leave our children a safe country as their inheritance".
Referring to Moldova’s European path, the President stressed that it is a journey the country must continue with confidence: "We have decided together that we are heading towards the European Union. And we are on this path! Now we have only two options: to stop and complain about our fate or to keep moving forward with our heads held high".
In closing her message, Maia Sandu offered an inspiring call for hope: "Dear Moldovans, wherever you are in the world, let us enter the New Year looking at each other with trust. Let us step into 2025 with the belief that Moldova has a bright future because it has a dignified, hardworking, and kind-hearted people".
