The European People’s Party (EPP) President, Joseph Daul, congratulated the center-right, pro-European presidential candidate, Maia Sandu, for obtaining a remarkable result in November 13 presidential elections in Moldova, noting this support shows that people want honest and credible politicians in power. According to him, Maia Sandu’s election result is a turning point in Moldovan politics, IPN reports, quoting the EPP Press Service.
“Despite the attacks and the dirty campaign methods she was subjected to, Maia Sandu has succeeded, with very few resources, not only to obtain the best election result a pro-European, center-right party has ever seen before, but also to mobilize the electorate and the diaspora in an unprecedented way. This shows that people’s desire for honest and credible politicians is growing stronger and that change will inevitably happen,” said EPP President Joseph Daul.
He also said that the EPP remains deeply concerned about the electoral irregularities of the second round, including denying the constitutional right to vote to Moldovans living abroad and this constituted a gross mishandling and a breach of law and must be looked into by the competent authorities in order to ensure it will not happen again in the future.
According to Joseph Daul, now more than ever, the political forces of the center-right must continue their cooperation ahead of parliamentary elections in 2018 in order to ensure a better future for Moldova’s citizens.
