“Both yesterday’s and today’s assertions should be treated strictly in the context of the election campaign,” the spokesman for the Democratic Party Vitalie Gamurari stated for IPN, commenting on the statements made by politician Maia Sandu, who accused the Democrats of fabricating pictures and videos following the exposure of their trolls.
As regards the social networking site Facebook and the related reports that appeared in the media, Vitalie Gamurari said there is no evidence and, judging by the situation witnessed during the past year, with all the seen scandals that involved particular states and private companies, it could be a scandal launched against the Democratic Party in this case.
The spokesman also said the PDM, given the Code of Ethics it proposed for signing, is possibly most interested in having transparent elections in accordance with the good Western practices, especially of the European Union. “That’s why this would be a serious accusation if the Democratic Party made such gestures after saying that we are open to any dialogue with those political parties that will later enter Parliament and have the same views as we do,” stated Vitalie Gamurari.
He noted that such statements are made because some of the election contestants do not have concrete projects and thus try to attack the ruling party that is evidently the powerful one so as to attract the voters’ attention and to accumulate electoral percentage during the last ten days that remained until the parliamentary elections.
Ten days before the elections, the social networking site Facebook closed tends of accounts and pages that were addressed to the Moldovan public and were managed by trolls, which is persons who hid their real identity. “We all knew about the existence of this factory of trolls. Now we know that this is housed by the Government. This was said by Facebook company, which annulled 20 false pages and over 160 false accounts. In a press release, this said that many of these accounts were managed by employees of the Government. The citizens pay employees of the Government to design policies and laws that would make their life better, but they invent lies,” stated the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu.
