Maia Sandu: When the judiciary becomes independent, a new Plahotniuc will not appear

Prime Minister Maia Sandu argues that ACUM bloc is fighting for justice reform and once the judiciary becomes independent, then no one will have the chance to become what Vladimir Plahotniuc was. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers says that the reform of the judiciary, the reform of the Prosecutor's Office is a priority that will follow its course despite resistance and despite all kinds of inventions on the part of judges or others. The statements were made on "Secrets of power" show, Jurnal TV, IPN reports.

"Now is the time for justice reform and this is the key to solving all problems. This is our safeguard so that in the future things that happened in the past will no longer happen,” the chief of the executive noted.

As for the Prosecutor's Office, Maia Sandu says that a head of the institution with a long-term mandate is needed to set to work. "Any excellent manager knows how to build his team and cleanse the system. We came up with this proposal to amend the law in order to introduce an external evaluation commission, which will evaluate the prosecutors and the judges. We have noticed that not everybody is happy about it, that there are certain moves and menaces to the reforms, specifies the head of the executive.

In other news, Maia Sandu says that if the concession contract for Chisinau International Airport is cancelled, the airport fee paid by passengers departing from the airport will also be cancelled.

"This concession was made with serious violations of the law, to the detriment of the state and we took legal action. Now we are at the judges’ mercy. We need the court’s judgement and, at the same time, there is the risk of an international arbitration because the state has signed this detrimental concession contract”, said Maia Sandu.
