The ring road around the city of Comrat and the only Romanian school in Gagauzia were among the first locations visited by Prime Minister Maia Sandu in Gagauzia on October 11.
According to a government press release, Maia Sandu inspected the work site of the city's ring road, which will be 18.3 km in length, while the cost of the project is estimated at 30 million euros, funds that are offered by the European Investment Bank. The works started in February 2019 and are due to be completed in January 2022. “I hope that this project will be a positive example. We have many roads to repair. Thus, the companies that will prove that they fulfill their contractual commitments have the chance to win other contracts in the Republic of Moldova. In the future, we will continue to invest in road repairs by allocating money from the state budget and by seeking financing from external donors”, said Maia Sandu.
The prime minister attended the 55th anniversary of the founding of Theoretical High School "Nicolae Tretiacov", where over a thousand pupils are studying. According to the press release, the prime minister congratulated the teachers and thanked them for their professional dedication and for their investment in the education of future generations.
Maia Sandu brought good news to the students and teachers of the "Mihai Eminescu" High School, the only Romanian institution in Comrat. The Romanian government has approved the allocation of about 780 thousand lei via the Assistance Program for the Republic of Moldova, money needed to build a study block adjacent to the High School. Thus, in a few months the construction of the building will begin. At the same time, the contribution of the Gagauzian authorities, for the same purpose, will amount to about 9 million lei.
Additionally, Maia Sandu had talks with the local public authorities from the autonomous region of Gagauzia. "I have been working with the local public administrations since 1994, however, the situation has never seemed more complicated than now. I understand that the priorities of your region are exactly the same as those of the entire country: jobs, higher salaries and quality services. We make every possible effort in order to create these conditions for all citizens of Moldova and we work hard in order to achieve these results as soon as possible", claimed Maia Sandu.
According to the government press release, Maia Sandu was invited to organize a Government meeting in Gagauzia during the talks with the Gagauzian governor. In turn, Maia Sandu assured that the executive action plan for the autonomous region will soon be finalized, then the entire team of the cabinet of ministers will go on a visit to Gagauzia.
