Maia Sandu: We will not vote candidate for Parliament Speaker proposed by PSRM

The political bloc ACUM will not vote a candidate for Parliament Speaker that will be proposed by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) as the bloc wants the Socialists to show that they are against the current regime, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, co-president of the bloc ACUM, stated in the program “Important” on TVC21 channel, IPN reports.

According to her, until now the PSRM voted together with the current regime for replacing the electoral system and for other laws. Also, Igor Dodon promulgated a number of laws that suit the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc, such as the capital amnesty, citizenship by investment and others. “Until now the Socialists worked together with the regime and should take the first step to show that they are ready to go against the system and for the purpose should vote the candidate for Parliament Speaker proposed by the bloc ACUM,” said Maia Sandu.

The politician noted that the package of laws aimed at freeing the state institutions from captivity should be afterward adopted. Further, the Socialists would have two variants – to support a minority government for which ACUM would be responsible or to cause snap elections.

Maia Sandu also said that the bloc ACUM is not ready to form an alliance with the Socialists. The invitation to discussions made for April 9 does not refer to negotiations on the formation of an alliance between ACUM and the PSRM. They want only to discuss the earlier proposed bills concerning the freeing of state institutions.

“We are not ready to form an alliance with the Socialists and they aren’t ready either probably. We are absolutely different. The freeing of the state institutions from the control of the oligarchic system is the only common point that can unite us . All the other goals are absolutely different. That’s why we cannot speak about a coalition,” stated Maia Sandu.

On April 8, the Political Bloc ACUM DA PAS invited the parliamentary group of the Party of Socialists to public discussions to consider the delay in the process of constituting the Parliament’s working bodies as the process blocks the discussion and adoption of the laws needed to free the state from the captivity of the oligarchic system. The invitation to discussions in the Parliament’s conference hall is for April 9, 11am, or for any other jointly agreed day and hour.
