The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu said the PAS, together with the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, wants to win not only the mayoral elections that will take place in Chisinau municipality on May 20, but also the parliamentary elections of this yearend, IPN reports.

“We want to win the mayoral elections in Chisinau and also the parliamentary elections and everyone should understand that we do not speak only about Chisinau. We must do our best to combine forces. We do not have the right to split now the anti-oligarchic, pro-European forces,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV channel.

As to the mechanism for selecting candidates for the parliamentary elections agreed by the PAS and PPPDA, Maia Sandu said the members of both of the parties have equal chances to enter the team for the legislative elections. Two commissions will deal with the selection – one for integrity and another one for meritocracy.

The PAS leader also said that when taking the decision about the mayoral elections in Chisinau they started from the general picture, from the parliamentary elections. “To keep this unity of the authentic pro-European, anti-oligarchic forces, we reached the decision to support Andrei Nastase in the elections in Chisinau and we also managed to agree the details of this arrangement, the mechanism for selecting the candidates, both under lists and in constituencies,” said Maia Sandu.

She also said she will campaign so as to persuade her supporters to ensure Andrei Nastase’s victory in the mayoral elections in Chisinau. “I’m sure that Mister Nastase will do his utmost to change things to the better in Chisinau. At the same time, we are all aware of the impediments to the correct administration of Chisinau which the current government would try to place. Secondly, when the justice sector is controlled, the Prosecutor’s Office does not do its job and this will make the activity of the new mayor more difficult when this will want to bring things in the subordinate institutions in order, when this will want to change the management of particular organizations so as to improve the situation,” noted the PAS leader.

As to a possible candidate for the mayoral elections in Balti municipality, Maia Sandu said no decision has been yet taken in this regard.
