The Republic of Moldova could benefit from the two instalments of macro-financial assistance until the end of this year. Chisinau authorities declare that they are "determined to move fast, so that all commitments are met on time and the country can benefit from the two instalments of macro-financial assistance". Prime Minister Maia Sandu said that in relation to her meeting with Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy of the European Commission, Christian Danielsson, IPN reports.
"I want to thank Mr. Danielsson and his team for being so understanding and for helping us obtain this money, which is extremely necessary for ensuring the payment of salaries, pensions, so that the budget can be implemented as planned," said the head of the Government at a press conference held together with the European official. According to her, the possibility of increasing the budget support assistance in the coming years has also been discussed.
Maia Sandu says that she has requested that the possibility of the EU funding a program called "The European Village" be examined. "I promote the idea of direct EU assistance to local public authorities, financing more needs of these settlements, such as repairs to kindergartens, schools, roads and other important things at community level," added Maia Sandu.
Christian Danielsson appreciated the progress made by the new government. "Since June, we saw that the Government was determined to take steps in several areas that are essential for the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, in delivering on the commitments made under the Association Agreement. It concerns the de-politicization of institutions, the fight against corruption and the justice reform. The Prime Minister and the Government have taken important steps in this direction in the recent months and we will support these efforts. But, of course, our support is not unconditional, it is important that all these measures be implemented," the European official said.
