The Republic of Moldova vehemently condemns the hostile actions against Ukraine and firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and will support all the international efforts aimed at identifying peaceful political solutions based on dialog and talks so as to restore peace and stability in the region and to resume the dialogue between the sides for resolving the crisis, President Maia Sandu stated in a press briefing, being quoted by IPN.

President Sandu called on the leaders of the countries involved in the conflict to act wisely so as to avoid violence or bloodshed. The recognition by the Russian Federation of the so-called “independence” of the Ukrainian separatist regions Luhansk and Donetsk is a new serious violation of the international law norms and principles.

Maia Sandu also called on the Moldovans to show unity. She asked the state institutions to attentively monitor the sources of fake news, the messages that incite hatred and propaganda and to take measures in accordance with the law so as to prevent these.

The Republic of Moldova maintains a permanent dialogue with the neighboring states and the European partners so as to strengthen the common position on the situation in Ukraine. There is firm solidarity as to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and the peaceful settlement of the conflict by the participating states.

The state institutions were mobilized to intervene to ensure the life and security of the citizens. The working group on regional security issues will have a meeting today to consider action plans given the new circumstances. The measures needed to project the country’s information space from disinformation and propaganda elements are being thought up.

The official reiterated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ call to the Moldovan citizens to avoid travelling to the eastern regions of Ukraine and to examine the travel alerts issued by Ukraine. She noted that Moldova is ready to help the Ukrainian citizens if they will need assistance.
