The Europa Union has always been a friend of the Republic of Moldova and supported the citizens in their efforts to ensure prosperity and democracy, President-elect Maia Sandu stated in a telephone discussion with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu thanked her interlocutor for the huge support provided by the EU to the Republic of Moldova, underlining the importance of initiating immediate and close cooperation between the two sides. The officials agreed to have a meeting in Brussels in the immediate future.
The two also discussed the effects of the pandemic and methods of alleviating the impact of the crisis. It was noted that the Republic of Moldova needs the support of its partners so as to help the citizens. “I reiterated my priories as the President, namely the improvement and extension of cooperation with the EU countries and institutions, fighting of corruption and strengthening of democracy,” Maia Sandu wrote on her Facebook page.
She said Charles Michel reaffirmed the EU’s support for the democratic transformations in the Republic of Moldova on its path to European integration, noting that the European Union is ready to intensify the close partnership with Chisinau.
