Maia Sandu to be handed over 2025 Reinhard Mohn Prize in Germany

President Maia Sandu will be awarded the 2025 Reinhard Mohn Prize on Thursday in Germany for her commitment to strengthening democracy. The information was confirmed to IPN by the chief of staff to the President Adrian Băluțel.

The ceremony will take place at the Gütersloh Theater and can be watched online from 11:00 a.m., local time. Guests from the political, business, science and cultural communities of Germany are expected to attend, according to the website of the Bertelsmann Stiftung.

President Sandu decided to donate the prize of €100,000. Most of the amount will go to support development projects in Maia Sandu's native village Risipeni in Fălești district

The Reinhard Mohn Prize is awarded by the Bertelsmann Stiftung once every two years. The foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Gütersloh, Germany. It conducts research projects, develops innovative solutions and supports democratic reforms.
