Maia Sandu swore the Constitutional Oath and takes up her duties as President on December 24. The solemn ceremony involved Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi and Constitutional Court president Domnica Manole, IPN reports.
The president of the Constitutional Court read an extract from the definitive and irrevocable CC decision that confirms the results of the November 15 runoff vote by which the election of Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova is validated.
In her installation speech, Maia Sandu said her victory in the presidential elections belongs to the people who voted for her. “Never in a country with Moldova’s problems, would a person like me have become President without their enthusiasm, involvement and perseverance. I’m one of you, an ordinary person, a daughter of this land who entered politics being angry with the injustice around and corruption that suffocates the whole country. You believe that the solution resides in involvement and I believe so too. In November, you gave lessons of patriotism and civic spirit one after another and offered the largest trust capital to a future President. With this vote of confidence and with your precious hopes, I today enter the gate of the Presidential Palace. I sincerely thank those from the country and the diaspora who realized that Moldova needs each of us and I ask you to further go on together. The victory should be of the country, not of the politicians. The victory will be the country’s when the people will live well at home, while the politicians will be the servants of the citizens,” stated Maia Sandu.
As President, Maia Sandu promises to serve the citizens with confidence. “We should all be proud of how the Republic of Moldova will look like in four years. I will be a transparent President who always explains the planned steps and consults before taking designs, who admits to the made mistakes, who is permanently in contact with the people. I will be an honest and integral President who will never become involved in schemes of corruption, a fair President who tells things as they are, who does not tolerate those who violate the rights of the citizens and country’s interests. I will be a President who unites, who respects all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, a modest President who understands that the post is a big responsibility, not a source of privileges, who appreciates competence and will promote and support the people based on merits,” noted Maia Sandu.
The event was also attended by acting Premier Ion Chicu, party leaders Renato Usatyi and Andrei Năstase, PAS, PPPDA and PDM MPs and ambassadors.
