President Maia Sandu filed a lawsuit against citizen Ana Mihalachi, her former voter, for a Facebook post considered slanderous. The case refers to the "defense of honor, dignity and professional reputation" and is to be examined by the Court of Chisinau City. The first court hearing is scheduled for January 14, 11:00 a.m., IPN reports.
The case attracted the attention of public opinion after Anna Mihalachi published an extensive post in which she criticized the President's work and leveled accusations against her grandfather.
The woman also accused Maia Sandu of betraying the national interests and pursuing policies that negatively affect the population, as she said.
President Maia Sandu reacted publicly, stating: "They used up all the lies about me and ended up telling lies about my grandfather. My grandfather, who took care of the family, who was an honest householder, respected by the whole village, with faith in God. Those who persecuted Moldovan Christians, killed and deported priests, closed churches have now come to use the church, faith and holy things in their shameless lies. May God forgive them because they don't know what they are doing," the head of state posted on her official Facebook page.
For her part, Anna Mihalachi maintained her position, stating: "I will never deny the truth, as Maia Sandu wants. Everything is true and I did not write in the heat of the moment, but because of the lies that she poured and continues to pour onto the heads of the whole nation," Anna Mihalachi replied.
The case was assigned to judge Tatiana Sircu, IPN reports.
