Maia Sandu says protests are yet possible until presidential elections

The president of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu does not rule out the possibility that she could yet call on the people to take to the streets before the presidential elections that will take place towards the end of this year given the difficult social situation created following the rise in tariffs and prices of different products, IPN reports.

“In this country, we have the highest prices and the lowest salaries,” explained Maia Sandu. According to her, the idea of mounting protests was discussed with people in meetings held in districts. “We thought about this and talked to the people. We started the campaign... We do not exclude the possibility of protests,” the politician stated in the talk show “About Us” on Jurnal TV channel.

She noted a common candidate of the ACUM Bloc could be fielded for this autumn’s presidential elections, but this must enjoy great popularity and must have the biggest chances of beating incumbent President Igor Dodon, who will most probably compete for a new term in office. “I do not ask for exclusiveness. If there is a person with the best chances of defeating Dodon, we are ready to discuss such a possibility. But for now we hear only theoretical discussions,” said the former Prime Minister.

She also said that one of the strategies in the competition for office of President against Igor Dodon will be the announcement of the candidate earlier than it happened in 2016, when the ACUM Bloc put forward Maia Sandu for President.
