Maia Sandu reports on 100 days in office: We are fighting crisis, isolation and corruption

President Maia Sandu published her report on 100 days in office, in which she says they even if the President’s powers are limited, during three months she managed to restore and intensify cooperation with the most important international partners and to obtain huge support for the Republic of Moldova. Considerable financial and humanitarian assistance was brought to Moldova and the process of clearing the state institutions of corruption was initiated, IPN reports.

“A lot of work needs to be done and a number of institutions should combine forces to ensure the modernization of the Republic of Moldova – a stable and professional government, a responsible parliamentary majority, a functional prosecution service, efficient and independent institutions. The presidential administration set off on this path – of development and wellbeing,” wrote Maia Sandu.

She noted that in the period she provided anti-crisis solutions and found support in the fight against the pandemic. She helped start the vaccination process and obtained financial resources and donations to help the health system, agriculture and the economy. The vaccination campaign began with the donation of vaccines made as a result of discussions with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis. She managed to reactive, with the support of the EU leaders, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism by which significant donations of medical and protective equipment for hospitals and medical personnel could be obtained. Humanitarian aid in the form of 6,000 tonnes of diesel fuel for farmers affected by the drought of 2020 was obtained from Romania.

Moldova was taken out of international isolation and the relations with the country’s foreign partners started to be restored. She paid visits to Kiev and Brussels. The President of Romanian Klaus Iohannis visited Moldova and a common statement to lay the basis for closer cooperation between the two countries was signed during this visit. Also, the Prescient of the European Council Charles Michel made a visit to Chisinau.

Maia Sandu initiated irreversible processes to clean the institutions and actions to ensure an independent justice sector, asking Parliament to reexamine Law No. 204 of November 26, 2020 and to supplement the strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity of the justice sector for 2021-2024 with key elements that can ensure a real justice sector reform.

She notified the Prosecutor General’s Office of cartel agreements on the oil products market and asked to hold accountable those to blame. She discussed possibilities of investigating the financial crimes and of returning the money to the country with international partners and cut the current costs of the presidential administration by at least 20% and the procurement plan by 2.2 million lei.

Maia Sandu was invested President of the Republic of Moldova on December 24, 2020.
