Maia Sandu reiterates necessity of a view on resolution of Transnistrian dispute

President Maia Sandu reiterated the necessity of formulating a view on the political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. According to her, such a measure should be on the agenda of a plenipotentiary government that will be installed after the snap parliamentary elections of this July. The statements were made in a meeting with representatives of the 3+2 format, mediators and observers to the Transnistrian settlement process, IPN reports.

The delegation is led by Thomas Mayr-Harting, the Special Representative of the Swedish OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, who is paying a fact-finding visit to the Republic of Moldova.

“We discussed the pandemic situation and reaffirmed our readiness to offer further assistance, vaccines and equipment to support the efforts to contain the pandemic on the left side of the Nistru. We also spoke about the human rights situation in the region and underlined the necessity of ensuring the free movement between the two banks,” stated Maia Sandu.

The sides also discussed the principles of resolving the Transnistrian dispute that should be based on a dialogue and should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
