Maia Sandu: Protests could be mounted if government commits crass illegalities

If the government commits crass illegalities, the president of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, who heads the list of candidates for MP of the bloc ACUM DA PAS, expects that protests would be mounted. The politician said the non-registration as electoral competitors without sufficient reasons for this and other possible abuses by the government could be among the reasons for the protests, IPN reports.

Maia Sandu does not rule out the possibility that the bloc ACUM DA PAS in such situations could take to the streets.

At the same time, the PAS leader said there are risks that the upcoming parliamentary elections will not be recognized internationally. “This fact was admitted by representatives of the diplomatic corps. This means that the Republic of Moldova will isolate itself more from the international community and will not have access to financial resources and can even face harsher measures imposed by the European Union, starting from other advantages enjoyed by the Republic of Moldova,” stated the politician.

According to her, the current government entered the election campaign in a way that denigrated the opposition. Maia Sandu referred to the discussions around the opposition’s links with the Foundation “Open Dialog”, noting she considers the government keeps this case as an eventual variant of attack if it is confronted.

Maia Sandu also said the fact that Moldova could not build solid institutions is the country’s biggest failure since the declaration of its independence. “If we had had powerful, democratic institutions, all these things wouldn’t have happened,” the politician stated in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel.
