The problems encountered in the education sector are momentary and are due to the elements inherited from the Soviet education system, the lack of highly qualified staff and the insufficient financing, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel “Moldova 1”, IPN reports.
The minister, who admitted that the reformation of the education system would last for 5-7 years, said the major goal of the education reform is the quality of studies. “The Baccalaureate exams are the most fashionable test of the quality of education and we know its results. Some of the schools became high schools overnight. Incorrect policies are pursued and the children become victims of these policies,” stated Maia Sandu.
She also said that the School Inspectorate will be created by the end of this year. There will be worked out qualification standards for teachers so that the process of assessing them is launched next summer, and will be set up school management councils that will include parents.
The minister noted that the national school curricula will be reviewed and work is done on each field separately. “We are for the simplification of the curriculum and hope we will be understood and supported by teachers,” said Maia Sandu.
The school optimization process will be continued. “It’s impossible to organize an education process of a high quality in a small school. The possibility of creating specialized classes exists only in big schools. It’s clear that the parents and teachers protect their school, but they will understand in time that they weren’t right, when they see the results in the neighboring school. The optimization of schools will allow to further increase the salaries of teachers,” concluded the minister.
