Maia Sandu on official visit to CoE

The President of Moldova Maia Sandu is making an official visit to the Council of Europe (CoE) in France’s Strasbourg on April 19, IPN reports, quoting the presidential administration.

Presdient Sandu will have meetings with the CoE Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE (PACE) Hendrik Daems, President of the European Court of Human Rights Robert Spano, Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE Leendert Verbeek, President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio and Vice-Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank Carlo Monticelli.

In the dialogue with the high-ranking officials, President Maia Sandu will raise subjects related to the justice sector reform, the fight against high-level corruption, the working out of an economic recovery program, cooperation with the local public authorities and regional security. Maia Sandu will reaffirm Moldova’s commitment to fulfill the obligations undertaken when joining the CoE as regards the building of a viable state with the rule of law.

Maia Sandu will make statements for the press together with Hendrik Daems (live, 10:45am, Chisinau time).

Also, Maia Sandu, together with Marija Pejčinović Burić, will take part in the official ceremony to launch the action plan of the Council of Europe for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024 (live 11:50am, Chisinau time).

One of the key moments of the visit will be the speech President Sandu will give in the PACE meeting at the invitation of Hendrik Daems (live, 5pm, Chisinau time). After the speech, the PACE members will be able to put questions to the President of Moldova.
