The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu was designated European Personality of 2022 by the jury of Le Trombinoscope – the French language directory service publication for the French political world, IPN reports.

The award was handed over on February 16 to the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France Corina Călugăru in the presence of the jury and the editor of Le Trombinoscope Francois-Xavier d’Aillieres, representatives of the French press and notable French political personalities, including the president of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet and the Prime Minister of France Elisabeth Borne.

In a video message addressed to those attending the ceremony, President Sandu thanked for the appreciation of Moldova’s efforts to remain part of the free world and to make progress on the path of European integration.

The Trombinoscope awards are annual prizes offered to politicians and personalities of the French and European public life. Starting with 1992, Le Trombinoscope has awarded political personalities who distinguished themselves through political activities and professionalism. Among those who got the European Personality of the Year award are Angela Merkel (2020), Christine Lagarde and Ursula Von der Leyen (2019), Federica Mogherini (2016) and others.
