The bright and peaceful future of the Republic of Moldova lies only with the European family, President Maia Sandu stated in the “Celebrating European Moldova” event staged in connection with the European Council's November 14 decision to open the accession negotiations with Moldova. The official congratulated all those who are eager to see Moldova a member state of the EU, noting that an important step was taken on this path, IPN reports. 
 
“Over the past three years, I think we have taken a higher number of resolute steps on the path of European integration than during the last 30 years, but the door to the European Union was opened due to the effort and the work done by all the people of good faith in this country, by those who fought for the freedom and independence of the Republic of Moldova, those who struggled on the street and in elections for justness and against corruption, those who work honestly at home and in the diaspora. I thank all the people of good faith who made this decision possible. From now on, it greatly depends on us if the road is short or long,” stated President Sandu. 
 
Maia Sandu noted that two major tasks should be now fulfilled – building a really European state that takes care of its citizens and can protect its citizens, and building a really European society in which the people live in harmony, respect each other and contribute to common welfare.
