Maia Sandu meets with President and Prime Minister of Romania in Bucharest

President Maia Sandu had meetings with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and the Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in Bucharest. The officials discussed the active support Romania provides to Moldova on the path of European integration and also the projects supported by the Romanian state, IPN reports.

Premier Ciolacu noted that Romania will further offer active support for Moldova’s European course and the reforms needed to advance the European agenda, in the context of the European Council’s decision to open EU accession negotiations of December 2023.

There were also discussed bilateral cooperation projects, especially in the field of infrastructure and in the economic sector, with emphasis on Romania’s support for the development of the investment climate in the Republic of Moldova.

During the discussions at the Victoria Palace, the officials reiterated their commitment to support the development of cross-border infrastructure and strengthen energy interconnections so as to bring the citizens from both banks of the Prut closer to each other.

President Maia Sandu stressed that Romania’s unconditional support helps Moldova improve the quality of life at home and advance with determined steps on the path of accession to the European Union.

President Klaus Iohannis welcomed President Sandu at the Cotroceni Palace. “We had a very good dialogue on the major aid we continue to provide to the Republic of Moldova, including for the accession to the European Union. It is the first meeting of a series of consistent meetings that I will have over the next three days with Presidents, prime ministers and leaders of the European institutions, who are in Bucharest these days on the occasion of the Congress of the European People’s Party,” said Klaus Iohannis.

According to him, there are only a few months until the European Parliament elections of June and it is essential for democracy to win again in Europe, while the consolidation of movements that rely only on nostalgia for the past and offer false solutions to the people should be prevented.
