Maia Sandu: Laws concerning mothers of children with severe disabilities should be modified

The laws and the authorities’ attitude to the mothers raising children with severe disabilities should be changed. The legislation on the personal assistant of such children should be modified and these assistants should be remunerated from the state budget. The allowances should be raised and the process of compensating the medicines should be reconsidered, said President Maia Sandu who met with a group of mothers who bring up children with severe disabilities, INP reports.

According to the presidential press service, the sides looked together for solutions to the problems signaled by the mothers, who said that these problems are a daily reality for them. “To improve the life of these people and to make it easier, we need to change both the laws and the attitude of the authorities,” stated Maia Sandu.

President Sandu also said that the access to education, including social integration, remains one of the biggest challenges for this category of persons – children and their families. “These are normal things that become insurmountable obstacles for many of them. It is the duty of the state to act,” said Maia Sandu. According to her, this is one of the important tasks for the next Government.
