The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu on February 19 was summoned as a witness to the National Anticorruption Center following the denouncement she submitted against the administration of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) for the reason that this didn’t adjust the natural gas tariffs, IPN reports.
“It was first of all a meeting to confirm the denouncement. The prosecutor asked me if I signed these applications and I confirmed that I did and then I repeated the things I wrote in the denouncement, namely the fact that we demand to punish the administration of the NAER for the fact that it didn’t take decisions and didn’t take action when it was clear that the purchase price of natural gas decreased significantly, while the tariff for consumers in the Republic of Moldova remained high. This lack of action on the part of the administration of the NAER caused considerable damage, of over 1.5 billion lei, to consumers in the Republic of Moldova. We think this inaction should be penalized,” Maia Sandu said when leaving the building of the National Anticorruption Center.
The politician said she made reference to calculations that were made public by a group of energy experts. According to her, experts and representatives of the NAER will also be questioned so as to collect more details. It will be later decided whether she will be questioned again or will not be. Maia Sandu said she will cooperate with the law enforcement bodies and this subject will be kept on the party’s public agenda.
Maia Sandu on February 5 submitted a penal denouncement to the Prosecutor General’s Office whereby she demanded to hold accountable persons holding executive posts at the NAER. According to energy experts, the delay in adjusting the gas tariffs is political in character. The experts anticipate that the government will postpone the adjustment of tariffs until autumn, before the parliamentary elections, so as to obtain electoral benefits.
