On the last day of campaigning, the joint candidate of the center-right parties for President Maia Sandu repeatedly announced her priorities. She assured she will be an active President who will spend more time in discussions with the people than with the state institutions, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu pledged to reanimate the Republic of Moldova and to ensure development projects are implemented in the country. Her priorities as President are related to the economic recovery, corruption fighting and reformation of the justice sector.
She will also work to ensure transparency in the mass media ownership relations and in the energy and financial sectors. She noted she will make effort to create conditions for the mass media to become independent, including financially. Another priority is to strengthen the principle of separation of powers in the state and to ensure transparency in the decision-making process in the public sphere.
“I showed I’m strong. Manipulation and intimidation attempts were made during the election campaign, but we didn’t give. We are to take one more step. For many, it is hard. Pressure continues to be exerted, but in the polling booth there is only you and your conscience. Don’t be afraid to take a correct decision on which our future and the future of our children and parents will depend,” stated Maia Sandu, calling on the voters to call their friends and relatives and urge them to go to the polls on November 13.
Asked by journalists about the project to unite the Republic of Moldova and Romania, Maia Sandu said it is a desideratum that a part of the Moldovan population supports and she thus respects this position. A decision in this regard can be taken only in a democratic way, but all the polls show that the support for this project is not enough yet. That’s why she aims to consolidate society around feasible ideas such as corruption fighting, ensuring of the rule of law and building of a future at home.
