Maia Sandu in Kyiv. Energy crisis and security on agenda

President Maia Sandu is paying a visit to Kyiv, where she is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian officials and to take part in an event organized by the foreign policy and security research institute "New Europe Center", IPN reports.

The energy crisis in Moldova is on the agenda of discussions. In a press release, the President’s Office said that "an important item is the energy crisis generated by Russia, which led to an increase in prices on the right bank of the Nistru, left the inhabitants on the left bank without heat and electricity, having the potential to affect the security of the region."

In Kyiv, Maia Sandu will meet with her counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denis Shmihal and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk. The officials will confer on the bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine, infrastructure integration, trade, support in the process of joining the European Union, regional security and cooperation in the face of common challenges.

On the way to Kyiv, Maia Sandu published a video announcement on social media: "Today I am going to Kyiv with the message that Moldova continues to support Ukraine. For almost three years, they have been defending their country, their families and the future of their children. Ukrainians’ courage also protects peace in the Republic of Moldova, for which we are grateful."

The press release also says that the visit underlines the close relations between Moldova and Ukraine, the common commitment to peace and security, as well as solidarity in the face of regional challenges.
