“We came to say clearly, with confidence and with pride that the Moldovans are Europeans. Moldova belongs to the European Union. Our country project and objective is for Moldova to be a full-fledged member of the European Union in 2030. This is not only my firm commitment. We enjoy the European Union’s support on this path and this is what the people of the Republic of Moldova want,” President Maia Sandu stated in the European Moldova Assembly held in the Great National Assembly Square, IPN reports.
The official addressed the Moldovans from all over the world. “Dear Moldovans – those who came together in the Great National Assembly Square, in the capitals of the world – I’m glad that we are so many today here. I greet everyone, those from northern Moldova up to southern Moldova. I warmly welcome those from the center of Moldova. I welcome with special pleasure Missis Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, and all those who came to confirm the European countries’ support for the path chosen by Moldova – the European path. I know that our compatriots from Milan, Rome, Paris, London, Madrid, Bucharest, Padova, Vienna, Barcelona, Budapest stand by us today. Those from the diaspora helped our country to cope with the problems and difficulties. Those who remained at home despite all the difficulties, all the people who kept Moldova just and dignified, are also together with us today,” said President Sandu.
She noted that even if it seems to be a long road that requires special efforts on the part of the whole society, the integration is the only path that will ensure a safe future for our children in peace and wellbeing. “It is our duty to fulfill this dream as we are a faithful, hardworking and dignified nation. The moment is now opportune. The way the future of our children looks depends on each of us, on the choices we make and on our everyday actions. It also depends on the state institutions and they should become strong, independent and capable of defending Moldova’s interests, and on the will and behavior of each citizen. No one can prevent us from following the path to development,” stated Maia Sandu.
“During 34 years, they have tried to block our future, to divide us, to keep us poor, to blackmail us. They wanted us to be dependent, to get frozen, to fail, but we resisted. We are resistant. During 34 years, we have resisted despite all the hindrances. We remained a country with free people, a democratic country that deserves a place in the European Union.”
The European Moldova Assembly is to transmit a firm message to the international community about the sincere wish of the Moldovans to be part of the European family. The event is staged ahead of the European Political Community Summit that Moldova will host on June 1.
