Maia Sandu: Igor Dodon wanted to assign his representative as ANSA head

President Igor Dodon was very interested in the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) and wanted to put his representative in charge of this institution. The statement was made by the former Prime Minister Maia Sandu, Action and Solidarity Party chairwoman. According to her, this was discussed during meetings between the head of state and the head of the cabinet, when Maia Sandu held that position. The politician said that Igor Dodon has put forward a candidacy, however, the person did not meet job criteria and the prime minister rejected the candidacy.

"Mr Dodon was very interested in ANSA. He wanted very much to appoint his representative as head of this institution. I told him we were looking for a very good person, a very good uncorrupted specialist, in a field where there are so many schemes. He submitted a CV. I considered that the applicant was not a good enough specialist and we continued to look for someone else. I found it fascinating that Mr. Dodon is so interested in this agency", said Maia Sandu during the RTR Moldova show "Piatnița s Anatoliem Golea".

The PAS leader said that while Igor Dodon has harshly criticized the government's activity in the public sphere and was unhappy with some ministers, during personal meetings he was not confrontational and he did not start discussions about why some ministries should be replaced. The former prime minister said that, for the most part, the head of state expressed his interest in some ministries, however, he did not provide details regarding what some ministers are doing wrong. "When we had these meetings, he didn't say anything about it, he just said that some ministries are of interest to him", the politician added.

According to Maia Sandu, Igor Dodon had two major problems: the justice reform and the "solidarity budget" which was elaborated by the previous government. In regard to justice reform, Maia Sandu said that Igor Dodon was afraid of an independent prosecutor who would have investigated him, while the "solidarity budget" offered a series of salary increases and allowances, which would strengthen the executive's positions and would have increased its approval rating.
