Maia Sandu: If it is voted in, Grosu Government will assume full responsibility

President Maia Sandu said that she obeyed all the constitutional provisions when she nominated the candidate for Prime Minister and the ball is now in the Parliament’s court. The legislature will decide whether to support the Grosu Government or not. The candidate designated as Prime Minister on March 23 will initiate discussions with representatives of the parliamentary groups and if the Grosu Government is voted in, it will assume full responsibility for the pandemic and economic situation in the country, IPN reports.

President Maia Sandu said the decision whether to support a Cabinet led by Igor Grosu or not will be taken by the MPs. However, if Igor Grosu does not obtain a vote of confidence from Parliament, she will request the Constructional Court to ascertain the circumstances for dissolving the legislative body. If the team managed by Igor Grosu is voted in, it will be a Government without parliamentary backing and this will try to act in the absence of a parliamentary majority that would support it.

“When the Government is voted in, it will assume responsibility and will start to correct things and to solve the problems that can be solved without the Parliament’s support. It’s clear that there will be no parliamentary support for a responsible government, but at least this government will be able to clear a part of the state institutions that are managed by the Government of corrupt elements,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

She refuted the reports that she had separate discussions with the Socialist leader Igor Dodon.

“If Igor Dodon considers the discussions from the office up to the elevator were separate discussions, he can think so. He can describe this two-minute discussion as he wants. We discussed in the presence of his colleagues, including about the snap elections. I tried, as I did in the case of the other representatives of parliamentary groups, to reach an agreement as to the triggering of snap elections,” stated President Sandu.

Yesterday, the Constitutional Court ruled that the presidential decree by which Igor Grosu was nominated for premiership is constitutional. In accordance with the law, the nominated candidate has 15 days since the decree takes effect to create the governmental team and formulate a government program and to ask for a vote of confidence from Parliament.
